Where it started…
When China was awarded the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in the midst of growing their winter sport industry, we knew we had to be there. In 2018, we partnered with Xinhua News, the Chinese state news agency, to help promote skiing with special Chinese episodes of SkiTV, as part of their goal to create 300 Million winter sport enthusiasts ahead of 2022.
As the largest beginner ski market the fastest growing overall ski market in the world, it’s an exciting time for the ski and travel industry.
On top of that, 58million people in China tuned into SkiTV in the winter of 2019, so we made it our mission to leave a good impression!
Where it is going…
As we continue to create content from ski resorts around the world, China remains an important market. In 2020, we have added TenCent Sports, the largest sports app in China, to our distribution channels.

Some fun stats on skiing in China
Skier Visits
From 10K skier visits in 1996 to 19.7M visits in 2018. The industry is young but the speed of growth is staggering. For example, the ten years from 2008 to 2018, skier visits grew by 457%. The Canadian industry see approximately the same number of skier visits annually as China.
Ski Resorts
You can’t have skier growth without facilities. From one resort in 1996 to 742 in 2018. While the vast majority of these resorts are entry level resorts with magic carpets and surface lifts, the number of resorts with at least one chairlift has grown from 109 in 2015 to 149 in 2018.
Indoor Ski Resorts
Winter sports aren’t for everyone, especially when coming from a non traditional winter sport nation. No better way to grow the sport than in the comfortable surroundings of a climate controlled winter environment. The perfect stepping stone from beginner to world ski traveller.
